December 19, 2025: New Project on Integrating Multidisciplinary Simulations and Artificial Intelligence for Regional Flood Risk Assessment of Energy Transmission Infrastructure
Dr. Kenawy has received a grant from the Hamm Institute for American Energy to develop a framework for assessing the vulnerability of electric transmission towers across Oklahoma to flooding and debris flow hazards.

The project team is led by Dr. Kenawy and co-led by Dr. Gabriel Perez Mesa in Water Resources Engineering. The project will integrate physics-based simulations and machine-learning models to establish a regional-scale framework for assessing the risks to electric transmission infrastructure across Oklahoma due to extreme rainfall events leading to flooding and debris flows.
